It’s official. The Democrats’ chances of taking control of the State Assembly were not viewed as great by their own leadership and are now significantly slimmer.

The AP reports:

The leader of Democrats in the state Assembly says he will run for Kenosha County executive in a special June election.

State Rep. Jim Kreuser (KRUSE-uhr) has been Assembly minority leader since 2003 and would be the obvious choice to be speaker should Democrats take over the majority.

Kreuser announced Tuesday that he was going to seek the open county executive position. He first won election to the Assembly in 1993.
