NCAA Picks

March 19th, 2008

Ok, I don’t need your entire bracket (you can share if you want, however).

But feel free to answer the following questions.

1) How many wins for UW?

2) How soon before Marquette gets bounced?

3) Your biggest upset of the tourney?

4) Who are your final four teams?

5) Who wins it all?

I’ll post my answers tomorrow before the first tipoff.

    1) 2. Georgetown will knock them out in the Regionals.

    2) Actually, I have Marquette going pretty deep, facing Texas in the Regionals….they won’t make it past them, however…..

    3) Western Kentucky over Drake.

    4) NC and Kansas, Texas and UCLA.

    5) NC

I read your blog every day and it takes basketball to get a comment out of me…I’m not sure if that says more about me or the political state of things right now!

    Anyway…

    1) 4 (biased, I know)
    2) Marquette to the Elite Eight (again, obviously biased…)
    3) First round, Temple and Western Kentucky are my 12s. Past that, 11 St. Joe’s over 3 Louisville and 6 Clemson over 1 Kansas.
    4) North Carolina, Wisconsin, Memphis, UCLA (yes, 3 1’s and a 3 is painfully safe)
    5) North Carolina. My dad was born an hour from Chapel Hill. Go Tar Heels!

Take my picks as someone who starts paying attention to college basketball starting Saturday. I entered my picks at the John McCain ‘08 website (I wanna win the fleece).
Final Four: North Carolina, Clemson, UCLA, Memphis.
UW-Milwaukee: I couldn’t find them on my sheet. What the hell is wrong with the NCAA? Bastards.
Marquette: I checked with the Pope and he said until they become a Catholic university again they’re going to suffer years of penance. Still, I have them and Planet Madison Starfleet Academy making it to the Elite 8. UCLA wins the title, but the NCAA and the networks win it all while college kids are ruthlessly exploited. Where’s Al Sharpton when you need him?

My biggest upset? McCain over Senator Obama.

  4. Sean Hackbarth Says:

I may be unemployed and broke, but I can still demonstrate I know little about college basketball. There was something called a “Presidential campaign” that got in the way.

    Anyways:

    1. 3 wins for the Badgers.
    2. Marquette makes it to the Elite Eight. Then loses to Memphis.
    3. Western Kentucky over Drake.
    4. Final Four: Tennessee, Kansas, Memphis, Duke.
    5. Memphis wins their re-match with Tennessee.

  6. J Says:

    1) 3 wins for UW

    2) Marquette loses in the 3rd round to Texas

    3) Villanova beating Clemson in the first round….then bouncing Vanderbilt in the second.

    4) UNC, Kansas, Pitt and UCLA

    5) UNC

The Bouncing Mozzarella says (full bracket at the link)…

    - 6 wins for Bucky
    - 1st floor; jewelry, appliances, and fowl exits.
    - It would be Kent State over Kansas, but since the Jayhawks always choke early, it has to be Siena over Vandy.
    - Besides the Badgers, the last teams dancing will be Tennessee, UCLA and Memphis.
    - In case you didn’t do the math, the last team standing will be the Wisconsin Badgers.

  9. Jon Says:

    1.) 3 wins for Bucky
    2.) 2 wins for MU
    3.) 11 St Joseph’s over 6 Oklahoma
    4.) Tenn, Kansas, UCLA, Texas
    5.) UCLA wins it all

  10. James T. Says:

    1) How many wins for UW?
    ZERO!

    2) How soon before Marquette gets bounced?
    Round 3, 2011

    3) Your biggest upset of the tourney?
That Marquette is still technically referred to, although sparingly, as the Golden Eagles. I will also be quite upset if Madison wins.

    4) Who are your final four teams?
Marquette and 3 other teams who will not win.

    5) Who wins it all?
    MARQUETTE - Jerel tourney MVP.

  11. mj Says:

    1) Bucky’s tough to predict. Could get 2 wins, could get 4. I’ll go with 2 and hope for better.
    2) 1 win for MU.
    3) Biggest surprise? Not one single upset in the entire tournament. At least that’s what my bracket seems to indicate.
    4) NC, Georgetown, UCLA, Pitt.
    5) NC

  12. grumps Says:

    1- 3 wins
2- 1 and done. Out in the first round
3- Marquette’s loss is the worst upset in a safe bracket. I did take 3 #10s in the first round, though.
4- Wisconsin, Tennessee, Memphis, and Duke
5- Tennessee takes it away from Memphis at the free-throw line.

  13. Golden Turkey admirer Says:

“Mr. November” Tan Tommy Crean finally broke the post-Wade Round One exit barrier but landed in the ejection seat immediately thereafter.

And now the poor Marquette fans must bear up under (at least) another week of non-stop Bucky Badger talk in all statewide media.

Pity the poor Marquette fan — with nothing but buckets to draw attention to their little school. The one trick pony is out of the headlines until BB rolls around again next fall. Life is hard for Gonzaga without the funky name.
