I have a friendly bit of advice for Teresa Drays from the Nowlan and Mouat law firm in Janesville.

When emailing invitations to Louis Butler fundraisers to friends and colleagues, do NOT send to public employees at their official public email addresses. It’s against the law.

Tonight the Butler campaign is hosting a fundraiser at the Old Town Mall in Janesville. On October 22, Ms. Drays forwarded an invitation to the event to more than a dozen employees of the district attorney, state courts and other state offices. Butler Rock Co Event-pdf - Adobe Acrobat Standard.pdf

Wisconsin Statutes state: No person may solicit or receive from any state officer or employee or from any officer or employee of the University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics Authority any contribution or service for any political purpose while the officer or employee is engaged in his or her official duties…

The Butler campaign has emailed the hosts of this event as well, some of whom are public employees. Did the campaign email them at work, too?

Not a good way to start a race for Supreme Court.

Now, I’m sure Mike McCabe will file a complaint and get around to blogging about this transgression real soon. …

  1. Roasted Peanuts Says:

Brian you must be kidding. This isn’t news at all. Someone forwarded an email invite to a state employee and this is the fault of the campaign. Really? Are you going to tell me things like this didn’t happen when you worked for Walker or JB?

  2. Dewey Skrewumover Says:

Oh that’s right, RP, liberals do not have to follow THE LAW. Especially activist liberals running a race for SUPREME COURT.

  3. Madison Outsider Says:

I want to go. Can I just show up?

  4. John Says:

I heard someone ran over a squirrel on the way to the fundraiser, maybe you can blame that on Butler as well.

  5. mickey Says:

I didn’t hear about the squirrel. Was he on his way to Louis Butler’s fundraiser?
I agree with John, those sending out fundraising solicitiations on behalf of Louis Butler’s campaign are just like squirrels on Highway 12. Louis Butler’s campaign associates and fund solicitors are nothing but rodents and road kill I guess. Louis has no responsibility for their actions and he won’t accept the funds they raise.

  6. Roasted Peanuts Says:

Brian, still waiting for my answer. Tell me that this never happened to your candidates.

  7. Ridiculous Says:

Before you levy serious allegations, READ THE LAW! According to you, the law says: “No person may solicit or receive FROM ANY STATE OFFICER OR EMPLOYEE….” Okay, a campaign is not a “state officer or employee.” (This is why campaigns are always set of as “The Friends Of…” or “The Supporters of…”). Further, your post says that a PRIVATE lawyer sent these on behalf of the campaign. The private lawyer is not a “state officer or employee.”

So, do you really want to claim there was a violation of the law?
