Justice Scalia on 60 Minutes

April 28th, 2008

Last night the CBS program 60 Minutes aired an lengthy piece on United States Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia. What struck me most was ‘reporter’ Leslie Stahl’s utter amazement that Scalia:

  • Had a great affection for his home town of New York City
  • Was charming and had a sense of humor
  • Had liberal friends who also find him charming (including fellow Justice Ginsburg)
  • Had moments of despair and melancholy in his life
  • Was a loving husband and proud father

Stahl’s stereotypical notion of an originalist, conservative justice was shattered and her education took place before our eyes. It was if she was expecting to interview a machine and found a human being instead.

The segment was a stunning case of deep-rooted liberal bias being stripped to it’s core and turned on its head.

You can see the entire segment of the show here.
